During a recent road trip through Tennessee, we stayed at the Bristol / Kingsport KOA Holiday and had a great overall experience. Nestled just off Interstate 81, this KOA offers a convenient location for travelers passing through or looking to explore the area. While getting to the campground involved navigating a few somewhat narrow country roads, once we arrived, we found a peaceful, family-friendly resort that felt safe and welcoming.
The campground is located in a slightly hilly area, which gives it a unique charm, though it may require some leveling depending on your site. If you’re traveling with Starlink, the open skies should provide solid reception for internet access. Though the park felt a bit dated in some spots, the friendly atmosphere and great amenities more than made up for it.
Camp Details
Our RV site had a rock base, which helped with drainage, especially after a summer rain. Some of the premium sites included wooden decks, a nice touch that made relaxing outside more enjoyable. Sites varied in layout due to the terrain, but everything was clean and well-maintained.
This KOA felt very safe for kids, and it was clear that families were welcome. Whether you’re traveling in a Class A motorhome, fifth wheel, or travel trailer, this park can accommodate various RV sizes—but do be aware of the narrow approach roads and slightly uneven terrain when planning your arrival.
Amenities
One of the standout features at this KOA was the onsite food service. We were pleasantly surprised by how good the food was—perfect for nights when we didn’t feel like cooking after a long drive.
There’s also a seasonal pool that the kids loved, a fun playground, and a welcoming camp store stocked with essentials. Campground Wi-Fi was available, but we relied more on our own internet setup due to the park’s layout.
If you’re traveling with pets, the KOA also has designated pet areas to let your furry companions stretch their legs. Despite the dated feel in some areas, the facilities were clean and serviceable, and staff members were friendly and helpful.
Nearby Activities and Attractions
The campground’s location makes it a great home base to explore the Tri-Cities region of Tennessee—Bristol, Kingsport, and Johnson City. Of particular interest is Bristol Motor Speedway, just a short drive away and a must-see for NASCAR fans.
Nature lovers can also take a drive to Warriors’ Path State Park or spend a day hiking and exploring along the nearby Holston River. And if you’re into history and culture, consider visiting Downtown Bristol, home of the Birthplace of Country Music Museum.
If you’re looking for a family-friendly RV resort with a laid-back vibe, helpful staff, and convenient access to Northeast Tennessee attractions, the Bristol / Kingsport KOA Holiday is definitely worth a stop. We left feeling relaxed, well-fed, and ready for our next adventure.
